My early research was on the geological processes involved in the formation of slates from North Wales. The aim was to understand the origin of the world-famous slates and help resolve some scientific controversies started in the mid-1800s. Since then, I have been researching rock fabrics from around the world and would like now to add to the information and displays on the geological origin of slates for the new World Heritage Site.
I was born in South Wales with many enjoyable visits and excursions to North Wales for research and teaching geology.
I recall many evenings in the Douglas Arms, Bethesda, just after decimalisation, being given change in new money, but counted out in the old pounds, shillings and pence!
