I grew up a stone’s through away from the slate tips at Dinorwig. By listening to family recollections of life when the quarry was operational and rummaging through my grandfather’s old slate-working tools; it has always been an interesting topic for me. As a creative person, slate has been an inspiration from the beginning. It became very important to me when I studied Three Dimensional Design at University, where I developed a body of work with slate; creating contemporary servingware products for everyday living with distinctive details showcasing traditional qualities of our heritage. Today, I’m very proud that I work at Inigo Jones as a Tourism Officer. By working here, I’ve learned so much more about this raw material that has surrounded me my whole life. My roll allows me to share news and information with the public whilst also allowing me to be creative, making products from the finest material under the direction of skilled craftsmen.
