My husband and I have lived in North Wales for most of our lives, we really can’t imagine living anywhere else. We own a former quarry worker’s cottage located beneath the slate quarry of Dinorwig, overlooking Llyn Padarn. Over the years, we have spent a considerable amount of time exploring the local slate quarries and are firmly in love with the brutal beauty of this location.
In 2016, we set up a micro gin distillery from home. We wanted to create a something that we felt was authentic to the land, including its industrial heritage. We did this through branding, selecting local ingredients, and by creating a spirit that was strong and bold. Many of the botanicals we use are harvested from our mountainside garden and the water we use comes from our mountain well, filtered through layers of slate.
Our gin bottle label was inspired by a picture commissioned from local artist Glyn Price depicting the Dinorwig quarry, mountains, woods and lake below. The finished label contrasts the organic features of the landscape with the industrial accents of its architectural heritage.
